St John's Reformed Episcopal Church features a stark white facade and a prominent steeple that rises above the surrounding neighborhood. It originated in eighteen forty-one when a group of congregants left their former church over a disagreement regarding liturgical practices. They hired architect Edward C. Jones to build this structure. During the Civil War, a cannonball struck the building, leaving a mark that residents eventually plastered over. The congregation continues to worship here in a space defined by its original modest dimensions.
