Hibernian Hall

The Hibernian Hall displays a massive granite portico with six tall Ionic columns that stand right against the sidewalk on Meeting Street. The Hibernian Society built this hall in eighteen forty-one for Irish immigrants to gather and assist one another in a city where they often struggled to find work. During the nineteen sixty-eight Democratic National Convention, protestors occupied the building, forcing the state party to move their proceedings elsewhere. It remains a meeting place for local societies to hold their annual balls.
