White Point Garden

A row of massive, cannon-topped monuments and weathered mortar shells lines the walkways of White Point Garden. This park sits at the tip of the Charleston peninsula, where the Ashley and Cooper rivers meet to form the harbor. In the eighteen thirties, the city leveled the original fortifications here to create a public promenade for the wealthy residents of the Battery. A pirate named Stede Bonnet faced the gallows near these trees in seventeen eighteen, after authorities captured his crew in the nearby marshes.
