Hilton Palacio del Rio

other

The Hilton Palacio del Rio stands twenty-one stories tall, constructed entirely of precast concrete modules. In nineteen sixty-eight, architect C. V. Jones faced a deadline for the HemisFair. Conventional building methods would have taken two years, so crews stacked seven hundred forty-nine individual hotel rooms, each complete with furniture and plumbing, into the frame in just over nine months. Workers finished the final room on the eve of the world fair opening, and the first guests checked in the next day.
