Marriage Island is a tiny patch of land sitting in the middle of the San Antonio River. Legend says it was named for a Spanish priest who performed ceremonies there during the eighteenth century. Couples today still step onto this sliver of soil to exchange vows under the shade of a large cypress tree. While the riverwalk bustles with tourists and commerce, this spot remains a quiet, deliberate destination for people marking the start of their life together.
