The Esquire Tavern features a long, carved mahogany bar that stretches for over one hundred feet, making it the longest wooden bar in Texas. It opened in nineteen thirty-three, the very day Prohibition ended, and served the first legal drink in the city. The space stayed open for decades before closing in the late eighties, only to reopen later with its original charm intact. Today, the bar remains a dark, narrow strip where the weight of those early post-Prohibition celebrations still lingers.
