In nineteen thirty-six, a blues musician named Robert Johnson sat in room four hundred fourteen of this building. He recorded thirteen songs over three days, including Terraplane Blues, into a microphone set up by a record company talent scout. Johnson left town shortly after, and he never returned to record again before he died the following year.
