The TASWIRA Gallery occupies a narrow, brick-walled space on First Avenue, distinguished by the large, vibrant murals often rotating in its window. Founded by Rita Meher, the gallery exists to elevate African art and artists in the Pacific Northwest. Before it became a creative hub, the building served as a storage site for local mercantile goods during the late nineteenth century. Meher fills these quiet, historic rooms with contemporary textiles, sculptures, and paintings that connect Seattle directly to diverse African artistic traditions.
