Arthur Circus Park

Arthur Circus Park forms a perfect circle at the heart of Battery Point, ringed by miniature heritage cottages built for laborers in the mid nineteenth century. It remains the only village green in Hobart designed as a deliberate roundabout rather than a square. When the local police magistrate Peter Fraser laid out this land in eighteen forty-eight, he insisted on this circular layout to mimic the planning styles of his native Scotland. The grass serves as a quiet center for the tightly packed neighborhood.
