It takes its name from Joseph Bidencope, a Prussian immigrant who arrived in the mid-nineteenth century and built a thriving furrier business nearby. His workers used this shortcut daily to move between the docks and the bustling trade district. While the fur trade eventually faded from these streets, the quiet path remains, preserving the exact route laborers walked to reach their shifts over a century ago.
