Narryna - the Merchant's House

museum

Captain Andrew Haig built Narryna in eighteen thirty-seven using sandstone blocks hewn by convicts. It sits tight against the street in Battery Point, marked by its distinctive Georgian symmetry and the long, shuttered windows that face the harbor. Haig was a merchant who needed a warehouse for his trade goods and a home for his growing family. He lived in the upstairs rooms while the ground floor held cargo brought in from his ships, keeping his business and his home within a single wall.
