Preachers

The sandstone walls of Preachers are etched with the initials of sailors who carved them while waiting for a berth in Hobart's harbor. This building functioned as a maritime residence and office for years, serving the crews who docked their whaling ships nearby. Its low, heavy profile and small windows recall an era when this waterfront neighborhood lived by the tides and the rough trade of the sea. Today, those same stone rooms serve as a pub, preserving the cool, dark shelter of the original space.
