Mawson's Huts Replica Museum

The Mawson's Huts Replica Museum is a near-exact timber copy of the cramped, wind-battered dwellings built by Douglas Mawson’s expedition in Antarctica between nineteen eleven and nineteen fourteen. It sits on the Hobart waterfront, constructed from the same materials and using the same tools as the original site at Commonwealth Bay. Inside, the walls are thick, insulated crates. Mawson’s men lived in these dark, freezing rooms for two years while enduring the strongest sustained winds ever recorded on Earth.
