The Brooke Street Pier floats on the River Derwent. It is a four-story structure built on a concrete pontoon that rises and falls with the tide. Before it opened in twenty-fifteen, ferries docked at exposed wooden piers. A local developer named Greg Farrell designed this building to serve as a high-end gateway for visitors arriving by boat. Its glass exterior reflects the water, and the interior houses a variety of vendors selling Tasmanian goods, from local oysters to hand-crafted leather.
