The Lenna of Hobart sits behind a tall, three-story sandstone facade topped with a square tower that overlooks Sullivan’s Cove. Alexander McGregor built this mansion in eighteen seventy-four for his bride, but he never actually lived here. He was a shipping magnate who spent his time managing a whaling fleet from the wharf below. After he died, the house operated as a boarding school for young women and later became a hotel, surviving despite multiple attempts to tear it down.
