Hadley's Orient Hotel

The four-story sandstone facade of Hadley’s Orient Hotel features a distinctive iron lacework veranda that runs the length of its Murray Street frontage. Built in eighteen thirty-four, the building originally served as a residence and business for a pioneering merchant. Richard Hadley purchased the property in the early twentieth century and transformed it into a grand hotel. During those years, the lobby became the center of colonial social life, where guests often left their horses tied to the hitching posts outside.
