Opened in nineteen oh eight, the hotel served as the grand western terminus for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Francis Rattenbury, the architect, spent months arguing with the company over costs before completing the structure. He later died in a violent scandal involving his own chauffeur, a secret affair, and a hammer blow to the head in a English village.
