Fisherman's Wharf

Fisherman’s Wharf is defined by the dense cluster of brightly colored, bobbing houseboats docked alongside working commercial fishing vessels. This narrow strip of wood and water began as a utilitarian harbor for the local fleet, providing a base for salmon and halibut fishermen to unload their catch. In nineteen eighty-eight, the city allowed the first residential live-aboard vessels to moor here, turning the industrial pier into a floating neighborhood. Some of the original wooden piles still support the docks beneath your feet.
