St. Ann's Academy and Auditorium National Historic Site

The gray, Victorian-era brick building on Humboldt Street features a central dome topped by a cross, standing out against the modern skyline of Victoria. Built by the Sisters of Saint Ann in nineteen ten, this facility functioned as a boarding school for young women for over a century. During the nineteen seventies, the provincial government purchased the site to prevent its demolition. Inside the auditorium, the sisters used a complex system of wooden pulleys to change the stage scenery by hand.
