Waddington Alley

Waddington Alley is a narrow brick passage connecting Pandora Avenue and Yates Street. It served as the primary entrance to the city for miners and merchants arriving by ship in the eighteen fifties. Alfred Waddington, a local businessman, cleared this path to funnel foot traffic directly past his own store. He expected people to pay a toll for the convenience, but the town council eventually made the route public property after complaints about the fees blocked progress through the heart of the district.
