Steamship Terminal

The Steamship Terminal building stands out with its heavy stone columns and rows of arched windows, looking like a grand classical temple dropped right onto the harbor edge. Built in nineteen twenty-four, it served as the main arrival point for luxury liners docking from Seattle and Vancouver. Francis Rattenbury designed it to handle the massive influx of tourists traveling by sea. For decades, passengers stepped off the boats directly into this hall to clear customs before heading into the city.
