Camellón de los Mártires

The Camellón de los Mártires is a long, tree-lined pedestrian promenade framed by white, arched colonial architecture. It serves as the historic entrance to the Walled City of Cartagena. In the early nineteenth century, this exact ground saw the execution of nine patriots who fought for Colombian independence from Spain. Their deaths earned the city the title of The Heroic City. Today, busts of these martyrs line the walkway, standing guard over the same path where they faced their final moments during the brutal Reconquista.
