Palacio de la Proclamación

The Palacio de la Proclamación in Cartagena features a stark, yellow facade dominated by a row of evenly spaced, arched windows that overlook the Plaza de la Aduana. Built to house the governor during the Spanish colonial period, the building served as the seat of local power for centuries. In eighteen eleven, crowds gathered here to witness the formal signing of Cartagena's independence from Spain, a moment that gives the building its name. A plaque remains fixed to the stone to mark that day.
