The white facade of the house on the corner of Calle del Curato stands out for its high, green-painted wooden windows and the balcony that wraps around the second floor. Gabriel Garcia Marquez lived here in a home that blended local Caribbean architecture with the space he required to write. When he arrived in Cartagena as a journalist, he was often broke and moving between boarding houses. He eventually built this residence to ensure he had a place to work overlooking the sea.
