Plaza de la Trinidad

Plaza de la Trinidad features a sun-bleached colonial church on one side and a collection of open-air restaurants that spill into the square. In eighteen eleven, this space became the center of Cartagena’s independence movement. Pedro Romero, a local blacksmith and leader of the neighborhood militia, gathered people here to march on the governor's palace. The citizens forced the city to declare total independence from Spain. Today, the square functions as a neighborhood living room where residents and travelers meet nightly.
