Centenario Park

Centenario Park features a dense canopy of ancient banyan trees whose roots spill over the sidewalks and snake across the dirt paths. Cartagena built this space in nineteen hundred and eleven to celebrate the centennial of its independence from Spain. Before that, this ground held the city's main defensive moat. When the engineers filled it, they planted tropical trees to cool the air, turning a military barrier into a garden where sloths still climb through the branches while people eat lunch below.
