The Plaza de Santa Teresa centers on the heavy stone facade of the former Saint Teresa convent, now a hotel, which looms over the western end. For centuries, this space served as a staging ground for the Spanish Inquisition and a final gathering point for condemned prisoners before their public sentences. In eighteen ninety-six, the structure functioned as a military hospital during the civil war, leaving bloodstains on the floorboards that residents claimed remained visible for decades after the fighting ended.
