Museum of Cartagena de Indias

The Palace of the Inquisition features a limestone facade with a prominent, intricately carved baroque doorway and a long, wooden balcony that stretches across the second floor. Built during the eighteenth century, this building served as the seat of the Holy Office, where the Catholic Church investigated and prosecuted crimes against the faith. During the trial of a local man named Francisco Munoz in seventeen seventy-six, the records show he was accused of practicing witchcraft merely for carrying a pouch of dried herbs.
