The Bajamontuša is a monumental fountain featuring an octagonal pool and a stone centerpiece that once resembled the famous Fontana del Tritone in Rome. Built in eighteen eighty by Mayor Antonio Bajamonti, it served as the terminus for Split's first modern water supply system. When the city finally received running water, the architect sculpted a bronze figure of Neptune rising from the basin. This structure stood as a declaration of the city's progress, marking the transition from an ancient harbor town into a modern urban center.
