The Fountain Amphorae in Split consists of several tall, clay-colored vessels stacked and tipped, spilling water into a stone basin. It sits tucked against the stone masonry of the Old Town. Local sculptor Kazimir Hraste designed these forms to mimic the ancient ceramic jars once used to transport olive oil and wine across the Adriatic Sea. While the surrounding Roman walls date back seventeen centuries, this fountain arrived in the nineteen nineties to provide a functional touch of classical history to the square.
