Strossmayerova Fountain

The Strossmayerova Fountain sits in the center of the square, defined by its circular, tiered basin and the ornate, dark ironwork that crowns the top. It was installed in the late nineteenth century to provide fresh drinking water to a city that had long struggled with reliable supplies. During the formal opening, local officials reportedly had to scramble when the water pressure proved too weak to reach the upper tiers, forcing a sudden and desperate adjustment to the pipes before the public arrived.
