Trg Šperun

landmark

Trg Šperun sits where the Veli Varoš neighborhood bleeds into the stone veins of old Split. It is a small, triangular wedge defined by the humble, unadorned stone houses that crowd its perimeter. For centuries, this was the final stop for field workers and donkey caravans coming from the hills with firewood and produce. They paused here to pay their tolls before entering the city walls. A worn, heavy stone trough near the corner still catches rainwater, just as it did for those tired animals.
