CAPC Musée d'art Contemporain de Bordeaux

The CAPC museum occupies a massive, arched stone warehouse that stretches along the Garonne riverfront. Built in eighteen twenty-four, this building once stored colonial goods like sugar, cocoa, and spices arriving from the Caribbean by boat. It functioned as a hub for the port’s lucrative trade. In nineteen seventy-three, the city transformed these raw, vaulted spaces into a gallery for contemporary art. Artists now create site-specific installations that play directly against the heavy, original stonework of the old merchant storehouse.
