Église Saint-Louis-des-Chartrons de Bordeaux

The twin spires of the Eglise Saint Louis des Chartrons reach sixty-four meters into the Bordeaux sky, their sharp, neo gothic profiles dominating the neighborhood. Built in the late nineteenth century, the church sits on the site of a former Franciscan monastery. Wealthy merchants who dominated the local wine trade funded the construction to serve their growing community. Its stone facade hides a vaulted interior where the sunlight filters through stained glass windows depicting the life of the French king, Saint Louis.
