Passage de la Tour de Gassies

The Passage de la Tour de Gassies consists of a narrow, shadowed stone corridor tucked between taller buildings. It survives as a rare medieval remnant in a city heavily rebuilt in the eighteenth century. A local merchant named Gassies owned the tower that once stood here, using it to monitor the movement of ships and goods along the Garonne River. His stone staircase, worn smooth by centuries of foot traffic, remains the primary connection between the busy street level and the quiet courtyard beyond.
