Rue du Puits Descujols

other

The Rue du Puits Descujols is a narrow, quiet passage defined by the high stone walls of the surrounding apartment blocks. It takes its name from a local merchant, Jean Descujols, who owned a private well on this spot in the fourteenth century. In a city where water rights were fiercely guarded, Descujols kept the key to his well, charging his neighbors a fee to draw their daily supply. The well itself is gone, but the alley still follows his original property line.
