Passage des Argentiers

The Passage des Argentiers features a narrow, cobbled path lined with tall, seventeenth-century limestone facades that lean slightly inward. It earned its name from the silversmiths who once filled these cramped shopfronts, crafting ornaments for the city's wealthy merchants. In seventeen eighty-five, a fire tore through the upper levels of these dwellings, leaving the stone walls scorched and blackened. The marks of that heat remain etched into the masonry today, visible just above the doorframes of the antique bookshops currently occupying the ground floors.
