Cours de l'Intendance

The Cours de l’Intendance is defined by the sharp, narrow transition it makes from the open expanse of the Grand Théâtre toward the city center. Originally laid out in the eighteenth century, this street served as the primary residence for the intendants who governed the province for the King of France. In seventeen eighty-nine, the painter Francisco Goya moved into a house on this street, where he spent his final years in exile, watching the neighborhood through his window until he died in eighteen twenty-eight.
