The Port Saint-Étienne sits along the Canal du Midi, marked by a stone basin that breaks the straight line of the waterway. Two centuries ago, this harbor served as the primary commercial hub for Toulouse. Barges laden with wine, grain, and textiles docked here to transfer cargo onto carts destined for the city center. A warehouse still stands nearby, once owned by a shipping merchant who grew wealthy coordinating the complex logistics of these heavy, slow-moving river shipments before the railways arrived.
