Fontaine Pont de Neuilly

The history of this site began with a near-tragedy in June 1606. King Henry the Fourth and Marie de Medici were crossing the Seine here by ferry when their carriage horses stumbled, pulling the royal vehicle into the river. The King personally pulled the Queen and their young children from the water, an event that prompted the construction of the very first wooden bridge at this crossing to ensure safe passage for future travelers.
