The Square d'eau Albienne centers on a circular reflecting pool, lined with grey stone, that sits in the middle of a quiet residential cluster. It occupies the site of a former deep-bore well, drilled into the Albian aquifer in eighteen sixty-six to provide water for the growing neighborhood of Neuilly. Eugenie, the Empress of the French, presided over the inauguration. Today, the water no longer rises from the earth, and the well is capped beneath the pool’s calm, blue-tinted surface.
