Square des Combattants d'Outre-Mer et d'Afrique du Nord

park garden

A row of slender, light-colored stone pillars stands in a quiet arc within this small square, each bearing the name of a fallen soldier. These markers honor the men from North Africa and overseas territories who fought for France during the conflicts of the twentieth century. In nineteen ninety-four, the town of Vanves dedicated this space to recognize veterans whose contributions went largely unrecorded in official archives for decades. The silence here reflects a long effort to finally name the missing.
