Square Jean Cocteau features a heavy iron gate and a collection of linden trees that shade the gravel paths. The park sits on land once used by the nearby Vaugirard slaughterhouses. When the city removed the industrial complex in the nineteen seventies, planners chose to preserve this small plot as a public garden. Jean Cocteau, the poet and filmmaker, lends his name to the space. His handwritten signature appears on a plaque near the entrance, cast in metal for visitors to trace.
