Musée de la Cinémathèque

The Musee de la Cinematheque stands inside the Frank Gehry building at Bercy, defined by its fragmented, metallic exterior that catches the light like shards of glass. This museum houses the collection started by Henri Langlois in the nineteen thirties, when he began rescuing discarded film reels and cameras from trash heaps. During the German occupation of Paris, Langlois hid thousands of these canisters in attics and cellars to keep them from being melted down for their silver content.
