Square Olave and Robert Baden-Powell

A bronze statue of a man in a wide-brimmed hat stands in the center of this small, triangular green space near the place de Clichy. This is Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the international Scout movement. He shares the square with his wife, Olave, who led the Girl Guides. In nineteen thirty-one, the couple planted a young cedar tree here to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of scouting in France. The tree still grows today, casting shade over the paved paths and benches.
