Pont d'Iéna

landmark

The Pont d'Iéna is easily identified by the four bronze statues of warriors perched on its piers: a Gaul, a Roman, an Arab, and a Greek. Napoleon ordered the bridge built in eighteen hundred and eight to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Jena. King Louis Philippe later renamed it the Pont de l'École Militaire to avoid offending the Prussians, but the original name returned in eighteen hundred and fifty-two. Napoleon stayed focused on the bridge even while he was in exile on Saint Helena.
