Place de l'Eglise d'Auteuil

The square of the Notre-Dame d’Auteuil church is marked by the steep, grey stone spire that rises above the surrounding limestone apartment buildings. This space sits on the site of a village church that served farmers and winemakers for centuries before Auteuil became part of Paris. In the eighteen seventies, the architect Joseph Vaudremer replaced the older, crumbling structure with this current building. He kept the proportions modest to mirror the village atmosphere that once defined this corner of the sixteenth arrondissement.
