The Promenade Jean-Paul Belmondo occupies the central reservation of the Pont de Bir-Hakeim, serving as a dedicated path for cyclists and pedestrians between the fifteenth and sixteenth districts. Its name honors the legendary French actor who passed away in 2021, and the city chose this specific site for its deep connection to his filmography. In the 1975 action film Fear Over the City, Belmondo performed a famous, high-stakes stunt where he stood on the roof of the elevated metro train as it crossed this very bridge. The naming ceremony was held in April 2023, and it required the municipal council to bypass a standard city rule that typically prevents public spaces from being named after a person until five years after their death.
