Square Albert Besnard sits tucked behind the church of Saint Francois de Sales, marked by a bronze statue of a woman holding a child toward the sky. The square occupies land that once belonged to the sprawling estate of the Pereire brothers, who built much of this neighborhood in the nineteenth century. Albert Besnard, a celebrated painter and director of the Villa Medici, gave the park his name. The quiet garden path follows the exact footprint of the old conservatory that stood here until nineteen twenty-seven.
