You are standing near the former site of Le Gerny's, a cabaret that once operated at fifty-four rue Pierre-Charron. This address is the location of the legendary discovery of a young singer named Edith Gassion. In October of nineteen thirty-five, the club owner Louis Leplée encountered the nineteen-year-old singing on a street corner and invited her to audition on his stage. It was Leplée who christened her La Môme Piaf, or The Little Sparrow, a name that eventually became synonymous with her global identity.
